Reading the news is an essential part of understanding how your government functions and what's going on in your world. It's important to stay on top of current events because it allows you to be an active citizens who holds their government accountable. Even if you only read a few minutes worth of news every day it can make a difference. You may just be surprised by the effect it has on how you see the world as well as your understanding of local and global issues.
Spotting Fake News
Today's world is filled with media of all kinds, and with all kinds of credibility. Especially when it comes to news it can be hard to navigate the hundreds, possibly thousands of sources available to the public. That it why it is up to you to be able to distinguish the truth from the falsehoods, and to be able to identify the different biases in the news. Even though no one can always know what's real and what's fake, it is important to try. Here are a couple of tips to help you sort out your sources and be able to find credible news.

Now that you have some of those thoughts in your head, here are some news outlets that are generally known to be credible and accurate, but not entirely unbiased. The general leanings of each source is listed next to it, but don't let a source's bias stop you from reading it -- just be aware of and thinking critically about the effect it might have on what you're reading!
